豪キャブラリー： Hooroo

Hoorooは、スペルや発音などにより一瞬でオーストラリアのシンボルであるカンガルーと何らかの関係があることを思わせる人は少なくないが、全く違う。
実は、hoorooはバイバイのことです。人と離れる時、軽く言う言葉、「じゃね」と同じような雰囲気でありながら、オージー英語としてかなり古く感じるので実際に使用回数が減っているだろう。年配の方がまだ良く使う言葉けど。

    Cozzieは典型的なオージー英語であり、典型的なオーストラリアのものでもある。多くの人にとってオーストラリア人の印象はライフセーバーである。そして、そのライフセーバーの制服と言うべきものがcozzieだ。そうだ！Cozzieは水着のことだ。死語のswimming costume「泳ぐ服装」のオージー英語らしい省略言葉だ。 　島大陸のオーストラリアは世界有数の水泳大国でもあり、有名なSpeedo水着はオーストラリア生まれだ。長年Speedo社は自社製水着をGreat Aussie Cozzieという語呂合わせしたコピーを使っていた。 　水泳大国らしくオージー英語では「水着」という意味の語彙が豊富であり、cozzie以外にswimwear, bathers, trunks, togsなどもある。

    多くの人にとってオーストラリアのイメージはきれいな海、暖かさ、変な動物などいろいろある。確かにこれらもあるけれど、実際に行ってみれば最も目立つのがハエの数だ。特にシーズンの夏。ハエが半端じゃない。そして、小さくてかわいいハエじゃなくて大きくウザいハエだ。この大きなハエがblowfyと呼ばれ、オージー英語らしく言葉が省略されblowieというニックネーム（皮肉ネーム？）が付いている。
